Tire buying would be so much simpler (or at least, more logical) if we could only test drive the damned things.
I kept the goodyears at 34 mpg. Haven't checked the psi on the Pirellis but assume they inflated to the recommended psi on the door jam. Will check this evening and report back. I was surprised too.

Would Plus/Oversizing work for the OEM 5 Spoke? With OEM as 235/55/19 to 255/50/19 I believe the stock is 235/55R19 102V 8Jx19 ET39 5x112 M14 x 1.5 66.6 2.3

I am very happy with my current set of Continental DWS Extreme Contact tires. Most of my driving is highway driving, but go up to the mountains a few times a year. I am almost ready for a new set and have 54,000 miles on this set, so I think I got my money's worth.

I hear they have a new version of this tire available (DSW 06). Not sure what the difference is, but I think I'll go that route.

And for reference, I inflate to 38 PSI (cold) all around, and check weekly. I believe the door says 34, but I like a little extra air for a little better performance and tire life. No, I don't fill with Nitrogen, I just don't see the point.

OEM 20" (S-Line) tire size (I'd have to look up the actual size).

355/50/19? Umm... no.

But 255/50/19 - yes. People have done this before:

Nitrogen is a good thing, although it is dirt cheap and what some places charge for it is ludicrous. Argon is even better--but that's expensive.

Funny thing is, plain air is about 80% nitrogen, 20% oxygen, and because the oxygen molecules are smaller, the oxygen leaks out of the tire first. So maybe your tire drops 4psi and that's almost all oxygen coming out. You add more air, and you've got what, 85%? 88%? nitrogen in the tire now, because of the oxygen--not air-- that leaked out. You repeat this a few times...and gee, you're practically running nitrogen anyway.

Black? Check. Round? Check. Four? Check.

I'm not running an F-18, that's been pretty much good enough for me.(G)

Be extremely cautious when it's wet with the Scorpion Verde Pluses, as at least the batch mine are from are terrible when taking a turn or curve when it's wet at all. They've also had a tendency to break free with little warning at their limits rather than pushing like I'm used to. They're better now that they're very worn, but I'm going to be very happy when I'm done with these (never again).

I would hope they're better now, but mine have been terrible and I wouldn't recommend to anyone. No mileage difference for me, either, but that's all pretty much marketing anyway unless you happen to drive the exact perfect way for how they're designed (which I won't!). Hopefully you have better luck, I remember Tire Rack noticing that the compound wasn't as good after initial high marks, too, so it wasn't just me. Hopefully whatever Pirelli screwed up's been resolved, but I can't trust getting the same tire I've been hating.

A lowered Q5 just seems so smooth and capable at high speeds.
I've heard tell of some guy with a non-lowered TDI that's had it up to 110 and thought the handling was just fine, too.

To stay on topic, my Goodyear Excellence tires that came with the car are about worn at 14,000 miles but I don't use the brakes much around corners.
Finally someone who beats me! I get 20-25K out of any tire I've ever had, no matter what type. I ran Toyo T1-S max summers on my Passat Wagon because they had insane grip in all conditions and wore exactly as fast as a normal Michelin all-season (so it's not like I was getting 10-15K vs. 40-60K, but I believe 20K vs. 20K).

lol...it must be a Texas thing. I have maxed out the Audi on a few occasions but only on a section of the toll road where it's easy to see what is around and no entry/exits around and it's out of the city. It's a fun car. There is rumor that a decked out looking Mustang took a beating from a Q5 on that same Austin trip. It shocked both drivers
