Default to pfgray2008...

not taken back by your strategy at all, its just that our current S4 seems so fragile compared to our other Audis. My latest RS5 travels the same roads and is flung through the mountains, but the nose remains relatively pristine. No question, if I had sensed that the paint was so fragile, I would have put the treatment on...

I get 4.5 to 5 mils depending on location. That's total, primer, base & clear. Can't check the bumpers unless I want to spend about $3k for a meter that will read plastic. Mine just works on Ferrous and Non-ferrous. There's not a whole lot there on any new car, have to be real careful when polishing. Read some of the detailing forums about the thickness, or lack thereof, of the paint on new cars.

Thank you for a real answer! I had tested the meter on a Lava Gray Q7 and the reading were anywhere from 5.5 mils to 8 mils. The varations were a bit troubling possible due fact the car was dirty or that I don't know the history of the vehilce. Anyway thanks again for giving me base measurement. I'll be picking up a new SQ5 on Monday and I want to be certain it's a "New Car"

Don't know for sure but if your meter is calibrated and working properly, I would suspect the 8 mil readings are from a repair.

Over the Summer we drove our 2015 Q5 Lava Gray Pearl coat out West, thru
the Dakota's,Wyoming,Colorado over 5,000 miles with only one ding on the
hood and that one the paint could of been 1/4" thick and it would not have helped. Only complaint was the paint peel on the front filler plate at the sensor.

I heard thru the forum that this is a problem Audi knows about and the dealer
will replace and they did for me.

Where did you see that? On the front near one of the sensors its peeled paint also on my car. Audi fixed/replaced no cost?
