Towing my kendon dual fold up trailer with one bike gets me 30-31mpg!!!
Trailer = 440lbs

Figured I'd add some here since I found this thread helpful when figuring out how much I can tow.
Just did a cross-state drive in Washington (including Snoqualmie Pass) with our boat behind our 2015 Q5 2.0T. Trailer weight is just under 4,500 (over the limit, but barely). Tongue weight is right around 320, which for a tandem axle trailer is on the low end of acceptable. I had shifted some weight farther forward, but it actually towed worse, so I moved it back. All numbers are from DOT scales where I spent an hour fiddling around to get things sorted out.
Got about 7 MPG going up the pass, but the average for the 300 mile trip was 15.7 by the on board computer, and about 15.4 by hand calculation.
One thing to note: our trailer has brakes, and I wouldn't do that same drive without them. We recently replaced the master cylinder for the trailer brakes and it makes all the difference in the world. The car can certainly pull 4,500 pounds, but it struggles to stop it without the trailer assisting.
Enjoy the summer.

I regularly tow a 4000 lb.enclosed trailer for business.It's a Tdi so power is not an issue.Fuel economy drops by 25% but that's still way better than my Avant 3.0l towing nothing.Tdi brakes are pretty beefy but I'm cautious nevertheless cause the trailer doesn't have them Ideally I'd say anything above 2500 lbs.should have mandatory brakes.When towing paddle shifters are your friend, particularly with a diesel.
