MMI Failure - Help
Gents,
Recently purchased a 2012 Q5. Absolutely LOVE the car. My second Audi. When I took the vehicle for a test drive, the MMI was not on. The dealer assured me that it was a low voltage issue because the car had been sitting awhile. They did the 3 button reset and it was back on.
That lasted all of 3 days. Now there has been a complete MMI failure. Got it diagnosed today and need a whole new Controller and MMI Module. $2800.
Anyone have work arounds? I am waiting for a call back from the dealer, but since it was not an Audi dealer and the warranty only covers the driving components, I think I might be up a creek on this one.

I spoke to the dealer and he is willing to replace the part. He sent me the link and its $200 on eBay compared to the $2800 the dealer quoted me. It's just the piece that has the Parkin sensor button and SD card slots and says "multimedia" on the front. Does this sound right?

That piece is "just" the brain of the entire MMI system. If you get the new one on eBay, it will still have to go to the dealer to have component protection removed. That is where it gets unlocked for use with your car and tied to your vin. Additionally it will have to be coded to match all of the features in your car instead of the car it came out of. Still a bunch of labor involved. If the dealer you bought the car from is willing to cover the cost of the parts and labor, RIGHT ON! If you're interested, you can PM me the link your dealer sent you and I'd be more than happy to cross reference the eBay part number to verify it goes to your Q.
