AFAIK, in SoCal, during winter when the gasoline on the market is what called "Winter Blend", the diesel is more expensive. During summer the opposite is true.
Some stations' diesel cost more than others, some are cheaper. Case-in-point:
This was few days ago.
Back to the fuel efficiency part, compare to my 11 2.0T, the TDI kicks butt in both the fuel efficiency and power.
But yeah, I am seeing a LOT of diesels on the roads these days. I can't help but to smile everytime I see a TDI.

I'm on vacation in Hawaii and it is $3.06 regular, $3.16 plus, and $4.59 for diesel... I miss my Q5 TDI but was blown away by the diesel here on the rock. Driving in a Chrysler 200 is a bit strange.
