Further.------After waiting for months for this to arrive in US, I get it, plug it in and it doesn't
work. Returning for credit and will give up chasing this. Will just use bluetooth.

The 30 pin Red AMI connector works.

I loaded up my older iPhone 4 32GB and iPad 3 64GB, connected them to the MMI with the Red 30pin AMI cable and video works perfectly. My iPhone 5, iPhone 6+, and new iPads (Mini and Air) don't show video with the new AL yellow lightning AMI cable at all. In fact no Video directory is available in the MMI's menu when the lightning AMI cable is connected, just Music directories. So despite the description on Audi's site... it is in fact wrong. I can play video only via 30pin AMI Red cable, SD, or DVD ONLY. The lightning AL yellow cable does provide album art ONLY.... so don't be tricked into buying it if you need video, especially because it's $80-$90.

I'm using the iPhone6 Plus and it only provides album art....No Video. If your thinking the larger screen is the the problem, I can ensure it isn't because I have also used the cable with the iPhone5, as well as current iPads, and they would not provide video either.

Hi people,

I am looking for 2 cables: lightning and 30pins. My car is a 2010 A4 with MMI 3G (not 3G+). Are the newer cables such as 4F0 051 510 AD (lightning, green grommet) and 4F0 051 510 R (30pins red grommet) also compatible with my MMI or are they only supported by the newer MMI 3G+?

Cannot find the answer in this or another thread covering this subject.

Hi Guys,

I have an Audi A7 S Line TDI Sportback 2011 - UK Model
I have the RMC system in my car (With AMI)
I went to Audi of Milton Keynes today and tested the following:

4F0051510AL - Lightning Cable - No video Support (I have iPhone 6 Plus)

4F0051510R(Red) - Video Support (But only for iPhones with the 30-pin connector), I purchased a 30-pin to lightning adapter from Apple and did not work either unfortunately.

Looks like we will have to continue to wait :-(

Apple does not allow video to be played from the new conection. Only the 30 pin adaptor. So you'll be waiting a long time for that to happen, thanks to Apple.

It's an issue with Audi's MMI and their new Lightning/AMI cable, not Apple. The lightning connector on the later iDevices will output video with an appropriate Apple AV adapter. (i.e. this one for HDMI: Lightning Digital AV Adapter - Apple Store (U.S.)).
So, that leaves the Audi Lightning/AMI cable as the cause for not passing video.

Interesting I haven't tried the AV Adapter yet. I only tried the 30pin to lightning which did nothing.

However I decided to get the 4F0051510R(Red cable) 30-pin and connected that to a iphone 4s which I had lying around and it would not load or play anything.

I mentioned the AV adapter only to illustrate that the Lightning connector does pass video. However, it will not work with the MMI, only monitors/TVs.

Not sure why your 4s and red grommet AMI cable is not working - my 3Gs works fine. What year is your car and do you have MMI 3G Nav Plus? (MY2014 Q5 or later with Audi Connect) .What MMI software version do you have? MMI 3G Nav Plus with 0487 or later is required for the red grommet cable to work with 30 pin iPhones,
