Default Oil at min for 600 miles

got oil change on Sat, then had road trip on Sunday for 600 miles. After 30-40 miles, I got low oil warning, ask to add 1 quart. Keep driving and when I get home, reset MMi, warning go away. Check MMI and oil at min level. Took it back to dealer Monday and they add oil.
Do you think any damage to engine? I don't think so as oil just at min level. But experts, please share

I'm not an expert but if oil was still showing minimum then I imagine you have not damaged your engine BUT it does seem like you have a problem which will need looking into! Possible bad seating of filter housing or something similar after the oil change.

No issues to worry about. The car will give a critical warning in the DIS when there's a serious problem with oil level.

It is my understanding that the level indicator shows only the last quart...

That's generally correct. There's lots of oil remaining even with the MMI oil level showing towards the bottom of the bar graph.

I think the only issue is why the car is burning a quart in only 600 miles! that's what I would get checked out...

I got an oil change and I think dealer didn't put in enough oil. It's not burning a quart of oil in 600 miles, it's that way a few miles after oil change until I get back from trip for 600 miles.

A lot of techs, even pros, forget that the new filter can suck up a quart of oil, maybe less. So if the job calls for 6 quarts, they put in six quarts, and once the filter does its job you're a quart or so low.

I have the 2.0T and need to add a quart about every 2K miles, so I just go on Amazon and buy the Motul spec'd for our car in 5 liter jugs.

I have a 5 liter jug of Mobil 1 0W40 that meets both the VW spec and the BMW spec for both of our cars. Until our consumption issue is resolved, I'll be keeping a couple quarts in the trunk if we take any long trips in her car. it takes about 1/2 quart per 15 gallons of fuel. I just pretend it's a 2-stroke.

I must be a lucky owner. I had my first 10k service a month ago and the tech guy said that the car hadn't lost a drop and that he could have put back the same oil it was in such good condition...I hope he didn't though!
