I own a 2015 Q5 TDI. ( yea poor me) Yesterday I got a substantial rock chip ( on the infamous 605 Frwy) Its off to the far passenger side so it isnt a driving issue. So do I just live with it until Audi decides to buy the car back or replace it and hope they find a fix for the TDI's?---thoughts?

Rock chips can turn into full-blown, screen-wide cracks. I would get filled quickly. Steve

If it's a good sized chip, I'd get it fixed.

If you have full glass coverage, a chip repair is no cost to you and your insurance will not be affected.

Fill it before it spreads and that will buy you time while things get sorted out or you'll get another in a worse spot and need to replace the windshield.

I agree...if you have full glass coverage (which most policies have) then you have nothing to worry about.

Botton line, I dont have glass coverage and the crack/ chip is shaped such that it cannot/ will not spread. The issue is replace the glass or let Audi deal with it since it looks like they have no fix for the TDI and will probably have to buy the car back.

I didn't know that such a chip could exist. Cannot spread?

Chipped glass will eventually spread. All it takes is a shift in weather (though not so applicable in So Cal), or just general stresses of steering your car around and hitting bumps in the road.

I think it's quite cheap to take it in and get it filled ($50ish?)
