So, silly question, but is there a downside to burning oil beyond simply buying the oil and needing to add it?

Our Q always needs oil between oil changes, but usually just once. I'm going to guess something like 7000 miles maybe for a quart?

I picked up a couple of quarts of an audi-approved oil the other day at Autozone that was on a 2 for 1 sale, so $4.50 a quart. At that price, it's NBD to add once or twice a year.

I guess the other question is, will it get worse as the vehicle ages?

I'm surprised the '13 is burning oil at that rate. I thought Audi had fixed the oil burning issue. I have a '13 Q5 2.0T and just had the oil changed today at 5,200 miles. Before I dropped it off, the mmi display had it as full.

I used to have a '09 A4 2.0T and it burned a quart of oil every 1,200 miles. I couldn't live with it since I drive a lot so I dumped it after 7 months. I'm curious to see how the Q5 does. I used to have a 2006 Saab 9-3 2.0T (drove 110K miles) and I never had any issues with oil consumption. If I burn more than a quart every 5K miles, then I may move onto another brand.

I am quite surprised because I have a 2013 and I am not having the min oil light come on.

I know it's not a Q5, but our 2011 A4 2.0T didn't burn oil at any significant rate until it hit roughly 20k miles, and then all of a sudden it was plowing through one and a half quarts every 1200 miles. We had the oil consumption test process done, which has stopped the oil burning, but led to another problem where the vehicle idles rough, and tries to stall-out when it's cold. We are now trying to get Audi to repair whatever happened in the oil consumption test process that caused this. We were wondering if anyone else, Q5, A4, etc. who's had the oil consumption process done has also been left with a rough idling vehicle that tries to stall-out?

I noticed this post is for the 2.0T. I have a 2010 with the 3.2L. Audis are new to me and I just noticed this evening that the Oil Level bar in the MMi was pretty close to the bottom. We got the vehicle back in Nov or '12 and the dealership had just done an oil change and the bar was all the way at the top and the oil change mileage was at like 9000 miles or so. It is now ready 4700 till oil change. I guess my real question is, is this normal for the 3.2L to burn oil and how much oil is actually burned from when that Level bar in MMI is at the top and not almost at the bottom? I will have to check via dip stick in the morning after oil settles. But just need to know if I should be concerned......

Top to bottom of the MMI level is 1L.

Thanks! and Yikes! That is a lot of oil for how new and few miles are on this oil change. My '99 yukon has 250k miles and I got 10,000-12,000 miles between oil changes and burn less then 1/2 a quart of oil between changes. Might have to get the Audi looked at.

I have an Audi Q5 2.0T 3.2L that burns 1Qt of oil every 2300 miles. The dealer says this is normal but I find that hard to believe. It's a 2011 model and has burned oil at that rate since I bought it but is getting worse. They told me to just keep track of the oil consumption( like I've been doing ). Thinking of trading out of Audi. Your thoughts?

2013 Audi Q5 2.0T
ODO - 2,500KM
MMI oil level consumption - 1/4 quart

At this rate, I believe my car uses 0.25 quart every 800KM. Is this normal?

Should I request for a oil consumption test or just get the dealer to top it off for me and wait for a bit to get a true indication of oil consumption of my car???

I have the same model and need to add oil every 6-8k miles of heavy traffic, stop and go city driving.
