Q5 TDI Versus Touareg TDI
I have a 014 Touareg TDI with 20k miles and recently drove a 014 Q5 TDI with 18k miles. The Q5 engine did not seem as smooth and settled at idle compared to my Touareg.
Does andone have experience driving either the Touareg or Q7 and found a similar feeling in the drivetrain engine? I would imagine the Q5 is built on a lighter A4 or 5 platform from what I have read and that is the difference? Or was this just an isolated experience with a Q% at an Audi dealership in Orlando? It was for sale not certified. I do enjoy my Touareg the Q5 in question was not as solid but is is 100 lbs lighter? thanks New to the Forum!!

I own both a 201 3.2L Q5 and a 2016 3.6L Touareg (both gasoline motors). The Touareg seems a lot quieter and smoother, probably because it's on a bigger chassis. I think the Q5 is an A5 chassis and the Touareg is a Cayenne chassis. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. I do know that the US Tax code Section 179 "Hummer tax loophole" was very favorable with the Touareg. The vehicle must have a GVWR of at least 6000 pounds and the Q5 didn't qualify for the tax break.

Thanks ever posted on club Touareg? I know there everyone is smitten with the TDI I drove both and really liked the VR6 also myself. Q5 seemed nice though don't get me wrong. This one has 20 inch meats and summer tires and tries where a boit noisey brand new Bridgeston H/L I think? Priced at 35,200 my brother is worried about dieselgate being settled so I think he is passing on this one. Prem Plus sport seats silver black, sport seats, 20's rear balloons.

I think my Q5 TDI idles fine, but I never drove a Q7 TDI or Touareg TDI to compare. The Q5 TDI should be a rocket compared to the Q7 or Touareg TDIs because of the reduced weight of the Q5.

When I got sick, I sold my TDI Cayenne and bought the wife the TDI Q5. Almost identical in how they run/drive. Now, the Cayenne had 4 corner air, locking diffs, under body shielding, and a 2nd set of wheels with Nitto Terra Grapplers so I felt much more comfortable taking it off road than I do a S-line Q5 but I'm not doing much 4-wheelin' these days . . .

Thanks for the replys. I will try to drive another Q5 TDI for my own interest. Just up here in Packerland not many to be found. Might of just been the one in Fla I drove, why it had been on the lot since 5-17-16. The Audi dealer in South Orlando was a good experience though. They sure where chocked full of Audis, big place hardly a spot to park. Not pushy professional good coffee.
