Default Transmission Mount Insert

After reading through posts, I have read about the transmission stutter/clunk in the Q5. Has anyone used a Transmission Mount Insert to help with the issue? I did a quick search, but nothing really showed for the Q5. I read about a aluminum insert that supposedly trades out for the stock mount and removes some/most of the slop. Anyone have real world experience with one of them?

yes, I have done it. 034 motorsports sells one, it is $75 and takes all of 2 minutes to install, assuming you have the right triple square socket.

I installed this and it is well worth the $75. I noticed the clunk gone in my SQ5 after installing it.

Are you all referring to the downshift clunk while braking? Does this address the issue?

I noticed the clunk primarily on the 1 -> 2 shift, but now all the clunks are gone, probably addresses others as well.

To figure out what this item is, I read the install instructions from the website, which are absolutely great and a must read for anyone.

My question is, what clunk does this solve. Is it audible or something that you feel? The shift between 1 and 2 is not very smooth (unless you are hammering on it) as there seems to be a big difference between them, but I would not necessarily call it a clunk.

I have changed the ADS system and in Auto the shift is not as noticeable and in Dynamic, non existent.

Thanks

I guess clunk shouldn't have been the word to use. Probably should have said, perceived rough shifts/slop in the 8 speed transmission. I take delivery of my Q5 mid-next week, but I even noticed the slop when I took one out for an extended test drive.

You are correct, clunk is probably not the correct word, but since that was the OP used, I just ran with it. It is probably a shudder/shaking that you can feel, rather than hear. In any case the mount insert took care of it for me.

Eveyone's opinion will differ, but I am happy with my choice and I am not simply looking for redemption here. I trusted the advice of others before me and am just offering my personal observation.
