Default Trunk question

Hi. A few months ago I had my trunk latch repaired (because it wasn't latching).

It seems fine, for the most part, but I'm not sure it's quite closing all the way (i.e. if standing next to the car, I can look in between the car and when the lid closes, and see a decent gap). Having a hard time taking a good pic, but the gap on my car is definitely a bit bigger than the gap seen below. In addition, the 'bumper' that the lid hits (right-hand picture), can be seen through the gap, and isn't actually touching the door.

I assume answer is no, but is this normal?

Thanks.

It sounds like something is wrong. It should close rather rapidly with a clunk, to a postion near the actual stopping point and then you will see it slowly suck in the last inch or two. It looks like a 2 phase close.

When something is impeding the final stage, it stops at the first phase. I notice this sometimes if I have the cargo area overloaded and not pushed in enough.
