Default Annual (nominally)

From my A8 experience with 2G MMI, nominal Audi updates are annual. The underlying supplier for 2G MMI is Navteq. The version number refers to the model year, at least with 2G MMI. Thus my 2006 came with v6, and later got v8 w/ a warranty issue. My experience there was actual changes to the maps/data seemed minimal in practice year to year. Same as my Toyota (Lexus) experience when I bought an updated map disk after four years. Once in a while a freeway ramp I use gets reconstructed or some such, but I rarely see a difference throughout Northern CA, frequently in Tahoe, and to Southern CA all the way out to Colorado as the car has roamed. Pre-web, some of the ancillary POI type data on the disk might have been freshened, but I seldom use that. With the newer "connected" type approaches, not sure how those are really impacted.

I don't know if this has been covered, but how do find what version is loaded? I'm assuming it's found in one of the nav menus? TIA...

So does that mean I now need two upgrades; this 5.5.5 for the Nav and then another one when (if!) new maps are released?

Talking to my dealer and Audi NA and Navteq, the response I always get is that "your car was delivered with the latest blah blah blah available". Frustrating.
NAVTEQ is a POS company that need to be put to shame officially. Just get new 2013 Navigation disk for my wife 2004 year build SUV - After install I check build - 2012 June. They change NOTHING and sell as 2013 Navigation disk.
We drive past major intersection, where 6 yrs ago was gas station and now empty lot - yep - navigation show Mobil gas station there.

Actually Navteq does the map updates for many, MANY gps mfg's and for some they are VERY up to date !!!

It all depends on how much and how often the mfg pays navteq ...
Wouldn't you want to get paid for your work ?
Navteq does too

Why I will always be disappointed in any car mfg's updates and keep my Garmins, they get quarterly updates - and they all come from navteq...

I nearly lost my hat last week when my father brought over his recently purchased CPO 2013 A4 which came loaded with 5.5.5 and did not have my neighbourhood at all...some of the homes were built in 2007. I was ready to lose it on someone but all is good with 5.7.3. Just thought I'd let people know what the latest map is.
What model year is your Q5?

I bought my Q5 on 11/10/12 off of the dealers lot. It was delivered to them the day before. I'm not sure of the build date but the nav version is 5.6.5.

I'm not sure if I'll keep the Audi Connect/T Mobile subscription after the trial period ends.

The new nav in the 2013 models should be much improved since it is using Google maps, right?
