Default Sunroof Leaks?

My wife is wanting a Q5, as she's sick of the sunroof leaks in her VW Tiguan. I know that VW uses this same panoramic roof in a number of cars (all of which have the leaking issue), and wasn't sure if it made its way to the Audi line, too.

So has anyone had any issues with the panoramic roof leaking? I Googled and searched and saw a few people had trouble with the Q7, but not the Q5.

I have a 2013 Q5 with pano roof. I regularly use a brushless high pressure car wash and have had no leaking problems to date after 9 months.

Just clicked over 29000 miles on mine and never a droplet from the sunroof, nor a rattle or a squeak, for that matter.

I wish that I deleted the Pano sunroof. No issues with leaks or squeaks, The mesh on the cover's lame even with the black S-Line headliner, I had to ceramic tent it or it would be unbearable here in Nevada, that and I never open it.

I just broght my 2k9 Q5 in for regular service. I had water in my battery well and asked the dealer to look into it. After 2 hours of searching they found out that it was the sunroof that was leaking. To be more specific it is the driver's side sunroof track. Appratenly water is getting in between the track and the body and folowing the headliner to the back and down the c pillar and into the battery well.

They quoted me $2800 to replace the whole track ($1600 parts, 10 hours labor). They said that this could be cause by body roll something else.

I had 2010 Q5 and a 2011 Touareg TDI, both of which had panoramic roofs. The roof of the Touareg was actually larger than the Q5's (I measured) but neither had any issues leaking for the few years that I had them. They both went through hot summers and very cold winters typical in Chicago where ice would form over the panoramic roof when parked outside at work.

There were issues with some Audi and VW panoramic roofs that resulted in shuttering or cracking in earlier model years but it seems such incidents are more isolated now, which makes me think that the manufacturers have addressed the issues.

I had the same issue when I got my 2009 Q5. It was a track clogging issue. The dealer said this was an issue on some of the VW'S but they thought it was fixed. Well, apparently not.
I would definitely argue the point with my dealer, as this is not something that should happen with any car, at any time, for any reason. It's a manufacturing issue, not a wear and tear issue.

Not exactly! I edited my sig before you saw this old post.....the mileage was on my 2011 Q5. I deleted it from my signature and added the 2014. Guess I should do something about that.

no leak, but a constant rattle after the sunroof recall. dealer can't fix it - have been in 3 times from 7-21 days each time and now am waiting for audi rep.
