Torque vs.Horsepower
I've read quite a bit about the 450 ft/ lbs of torque available in the TDI Q5s, and how for the first 30 mph, they can't be beat. My SQ5 is now approaching the 1000 mile mark, so I've been letting the reigns loose a little more lately, and what I find almost breathtaking (apologies for the drama) is the almost constant, rapid acceleration through the gears. To be honest, this is not the type of car I expect to be a beast out of the hole, smoking tires and wreaking havoc on the neighborhood, but somehow the plain quickness of this car has really got me hooked.
Mileage...I just came out of a bad relationship with a Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 5.7 hemi that I tried to mod to the best of my ability to get some speed out of...and all I accomplished was a 6.75 0-60 time and 9.5 MPG, so, I am very very happy with the 14 mpg so far.
Any discussions?

It's definitely quick... and there's something about the way it's quick that's really satisfying. I can't speak to the TDI, only the TFSI, but driving the car, it really feels like you have all the power you need and the ability to get it on the road effectively. Makes daily driving, dealing with traffic, on-ramps, cross streets a different experience.
It's a fun topic to watch people get torqued about (pun unintended but tolerated) -- a new review cites a 4.8 sec 0-60 time.
I have no idea if it does 4.8 vs. 5.8, but it's a lot faster (and jarring) than the 2012 Jetta GLI I had last. That car supposedly does 5.8, but the SQ is very different experience. Plus it keeps going very hard way past 60.
Now, the first time I went to the gas station after having driven not so many miles... oh well, no such thing as a free lunch. That's where I'd be pretty interested in the TDI version.

Torque is very important in speeding up, it is best shown by the following:
SQ5 3.0TFSI 354PS / 470Nm 0-100 km/h - 5,3 s
SQ5 3.0TDI 313PS / 650Nm 0-100 km/h - 5,1 s
TDI has 41PS less but has better acceleration

The regular 3.0T Q5 has only 30 more HP than the regular TDI and despite the TDI's 133 lb-ft advantage it is 0.5s slower to 60. I thought the consensus was the TDI's biggest wow factor other than fantastic mileage is the 60-80MPH+ acceleration.
At any rate both are quick...Audi loves torque...and so do I.

In recent tests, Car & Driver reported:
SQ5: 5.2 0-60 mph and 13.1 0-100 mph
TDI: 5.8 0-60 mph and 17.6 0-100 mph
This is just one publication's reviews, others will vary.

True. What's interesting is the SQ5 TDI is an exceptionally high HP diesel...kind of rare. Having 73HP more than the regular TDI (6.5s) and 125lb-ft more torque than the TFSI SQ5. So no real surprise it is quick. No idea what the gearing is on SQ5 TDI either.

I really enjoyed the TDI torque matched to the 8 speed on the autobahns during our recent ED. It was nice for the engine to be loaping around 2700 rpm at 120 mph. Amazing when downshifting to get into the fast lane without the hectic drive for rpm. Quite a nice power train combination.
