2008 Q7 4.2 - Failing first CA smog because of general engine sticker?
I have a 2008 Audi Q7, 4.2 loaded, all factory equip and upgrades. This is the first year a smog is needed in CA, car was manufactured for CA and sold in CA. Smog station says emissions sticker diagram under hood does not show a certain hose from top of valve cover for breather is in place, so they failed if and said it was tampered with, even though the shop knew/knows I have not touched anything, they said only option they had to input but they must fail it if it does not match dead on. They said Audi should have a sticker for each engine that matches the diagram. I went to Audi and spoke with the service tech manager, he said there were multiple engines for that year and that my engine is factory with no mods, and that the sticker is a general one for all Q7's. Well, this does not help me or the smog shop at all, even though he printed out a diagram that shows you can plug it on some engines and there is a hose on others. Smog does not care, sending me to the smog referee, but certainly as more 08's and 09's begin needing smog in CA there are going to be more pissed off owners. Anyone else encounter this issue? Referee says after they see enough of them they will either add an exception for them or force Audi in CA to issue new engine stickers (yeah right). Something tells me we are in for a rough road every 2 years in CA.

Thanks for the info. I went to Audi and they were as perplexed as I, but the smog and State of CA see it differently. However, Audi did refer me to the shop that they normally refer people to, and with the proper diagram print out from Audi service, the smog shop did smog it for me, but quite a hassle and may be a problem down the road for owners.
