Default 2014 Q7 Park Issue

I have a 2014 Q7 and with more and more frequency when I stop, put the car in park and stop the engine the dash display indicates that the car is not in park and can roll. This would not be a big issue but when it does this I can not lock the doors. What could cause this? I know the car is in park because it always starts when I push the start button even though the display indicates the car is not in park.

It sounds like a fault with the sensor that detects the position of the shift lever.
I think it uses reed switches so it begs the question - you don't put anything magnetic near the shift mechanism do you?

I don't think we've put anything magnetic near the shift mechanism...only our cell phones.

I think we need to see if there are any fault codes for this - have you access to any means of reading the logs?

I don't have an Audi dealer near me but I'm trying to find someone who can read the codes I will let you know if anything is irregular.
