Default 21" or 22" on new 2015 Q7

I will be ordering a fully loaded 2015 Q7 3.0T S-line prestige in the next couple of weeks. I will need a dedicated set of snow/all-season wheels/tires along with a Summer set. I have a couple of options to accomplish this which end up being within $50 of each other.

Option 1: Get the 20" S-line wheels and all-season tires from the factory. Then buy the Hartmann HRS6-204-MA 22" wheels which are a replica of the factory S-line 21" wheel option, same color. I would put Michelin Pilot Super Sports 295X30R22 on these which is almost a perfect match size wise to the factory 21" option other than the sidewall rim size difference.

Option 2: Get the 21" S-line wheels and Summer tires from the factory. Then buy the Hartmann HRS4-252-GS 20" wheels which are silver. I would put a dedicated 275X45R20 snow tire on these for Winter.

With option 1 I get 2 sets that are titanium color, bigger 22" wheels for Summer, I get to choose my Summer tire, not get stuck with whatever comes from the factory, I don't get a dedicated Winter tire, just all-seasons of whatever flavor comes from the factory.

With option 2 I get the factory 21" setup with whatever Summer tire they decide to put on them, I get to choose my Winter tire, The Winter wheels are silver not titanium, I don't get the 22s for Summer.

The Q will spend 3/4 of the year in it's Summer setup. I'm heavily leaning towards option 1. My reservations are ride quality of 21 vs 22 and the unknown of an aftermarket wheel, although I hear good things about Hartmann wheels.

Anyone have any real world experience of ride quality 21 vs 22. Its about 4" vs 3.5" of total sidewall on each? Anyone have good or bad experience with Hartmann? I will have the air suspension, so I can change the ride height to match each wheel set and maybe the air suspension would mitigate any ride quality difference???

21" OEM Wheels with dedicated summer tires.

21" / 20" OEM Wheels with dedicated winter tires.

I have seen the hartmann 20" in person and they look weird on a Q7.

21" rubber wear ratings are horrible, with 22" ratings superior. Cost is the same.

This was a similar situation for me but the dealer I purchased from just replaced the sline 20's and winter tires. I ordered Hartmann 22s but am having a ordeal trying to get the tires I thought I wanted. I was going for 285/35/22 but am getting told the 106 load rating on the tires is too low. On the verge of hitting Tire rack and doing it myself. Tire rack will ship as ok for my tires. Want to run the calcs myself and get more info from people with 106 rated tires.

295/30/22 I've see at 103 rated at best. Which seems way too low for several pax and fathom of towing lol.

Sorry to cross post threads.

What I've gathered from these retailers is they are afraid to sell anything lower than the smallest OE load rating. "The minimum on our charts is 107" seems no one can do the math to see that 106s handle the rear GAWR, which is a max, and 4 cover the GVWR, which is a max. Guess Tirerack to the rescue.

Yeah I think 106 would be fine. I'm also finding that there are not many choices in 22 size tires that would suit compared to the 295X35R21 on the stock S-Line 21 wheels. I have 255X40R21s on my SQ5 and they are almost exactly the same dimensions as the Q7 21" setup with the Q7 tires being a bit wider. I'm thinking I'm going to stick with the 21s just because of the availability of tires and because I already know how they should ride compared to my SQ5.

By the way you can now get the 5 Blade Rotor design wheels on a Q7 with Titanium finish. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and order these from Audi as my Winter wheels. If you check out the 2015 Q7 brochure you see them as one of the optional wheels.

That 21" tire price is a monster lol. But I went ahead and ordered the Yokohama 285/35/22 good reviews for that and the Pirelli. Tire rack should have them here in two days. so we soon shall see. Thanks for people's input and help.

I would keep the 20s for winter or sale them and get 22s plus I have 295 35 22 tires which is nice for side profile and wide enough for the looks.

Iconoclast, you say those Hartmann 20" replicas don't look good on the Q7. Is it just because they are 20s and not 21s? They are replicas of the old S-Line 21" 7 double spokes. I ask because I am considering that OEM 21" S-Line wheel as my Winter wheel.
