Default 4 CYL Q7??? WTF? Shout out with me...

I'm clearly behind the curve here, but I just noticed that there is a $6k premium for a reasonable engine in a Q7?? WTF AOA?

I'm pretty sure, after almost 10 years of Q7s, this is my last one. The profit margin on that 2.0l must be a reason (I know, I know, there is pressure to bring down their total MPGs across the range). Total BS.

Car companies that give us want we want when we spend $50k are going to kick your *** AOA - your cool LED headlights are only going to get you so far before people start realizing that you're ripping them off.

UGH!

Set me straight please as I think I'm watching my favorite automaker take away the non-lag 6 cyl engine in every line. I can barely take this engine in my S3 - lag lag lag - and it has 40 more HPs than the 2.0 in the Q7.

ARRRRGGG!!

(ok, I'm done venting, thanks.)

What does this have to do with the MK1 Q7?

why would you even consider putting a 4 cyl in a Q7? you might as well just buy a Range Rover classic, you know, the SUV that makes you drive a stake in the ground to measure progress....

Venting is ok but avoid the off color language. It's unnecessary to make a point.

The 2017 2.0t Q7 is quicker than the outgoing 2015 3.0t Q7 (non-S-line). The 3.0t will still continue to be available in the new Q7. The 2.0t is to bring the price more in line with some of the competition such as the Acura MDX.

I believe this is done to compete against XC90 and have a lower entry price on base model Q7. This may not be directly related to profit margins but more so about meeting carb/cafe standards with smaller motors averaged across the brand and of course it helps having a luxury badge vehicle that is more accessible to someone shopping another marque that may not carry a luxury badge but is priced inline or close to.

That being said there is no way I would want a 2.slow in a Q7. The 4L Q7 is hardly sporting without modification but I have imagine that even with the weight savings it would be a slouch with a 4cyl.

The reason for my venting, which you missed reading my post;

1. 4-cyl lag is frustrating, especially in a big vehicle
2. It's about the money - the outgoing 3.0 is being replace with a much less expensive motor, so if you want the equivalent car in 2017 you have to have a 6k dollar premium - huge pricing increase hidden in HP/Torque numbers.
3. Read more posts about this, but a Q7 is not an Acura (I had an MDX in 2014), the Q7 is in the upper stratosphere in fit, finish and drivability compared to most anything Japan as to offer, and the Acura gets to $58k really quick when you configure it - with an AMAZING 6 cyl. engine!
