I haven't shopped around the independent shops but was curious if this sounds reasonable or I should shop it around? Also, the stock pads seem fairly dusty; anyone have opinions on aftermarket pads that are better in general or stick with oem?

Thanks!
900 for parts and labor? This is great deal. What city/state?
Mine costs 1600.

$900 is a deal - but the dealer will only install OEM. So more dust and noise, but great braking.

Since Rotex is no more, Hawk PC pads are working well for me. Very little dust and quiet. good smooth stops.

DUTCH - I know you didn't like them but would you use them again?

No. The reddish brown brake pad dust was only slightly less than the very dirty factory pads. Not worth the trouble in my experience.

Also, the Hawk pads had excessive build up of paint around the slots where the brake pad sensors are inserted; and as a result, I broke a couple of new sensors before learning that I had to manually scrape to remove the excess paint prior to inserting the sensors.

I don't know. Currently researching for my own future need.

Default OEM brakes vs Brembo / Bosch / Zimmerman

I've been looking around for brakes (rotors and pads) for my 2013 Q7 TDI.
While I have had a satisfactory experience with the OEMs that came with the car (apart from the dust!), I would like to try some other brand now.

I plan to buy the parts and take them to an independent mechanic to install.
I noticed that the OEM Audi/VW branded parts are much more expensive compared to other brands like Bosh, Brembo, Zimmerman.

Any recommendations?

I found this website that seems to have a good selection, and reasonable prices

Also, does anyone have any experience with ordering parts from FCPEuro.com?

I concur, in San Diego it is $1,600 for all four corners at the dealer. Even going to an independent shop with certified techs (and oem parts) it only saves about $100.

I will say that I have my local tire shop install pads once between rotor/pad changes at the dealership. The dealer will only do pads and rotors together here, so it's $1,600 even if you really only need pads. I get ceramic pads done for something like $200 when I get tires and that gets me through another couple years on the rotors.

I love working on my cars but I just haven't taken the leap to do brakes on the beast yet, which I know is crazy since it is such a ripoff...

I called the dealer here in the SF Bay Area, and they quoted me $1850 for all 4 wheels (OEM rotors + pads + labor). They charge approx $330 per axle if I provide the parts.

An indy shop I enquired at said $150 per axle if I provide the parts.
