Default Cargo Carrier Installation Help

I recently purchased an Audi cargo carrier (made by Thule) for my 2015 Q7. I have the standard Audi roof rack cross bars. The service department installed it on the racks for me. As you can see in the pictures, the clamps from the cargo box don't seat all the way around the bars....it doesn't look right how just the tips are gripping the lower part of the cross bar. The dealership said they thought it was correctly installed. Granted it is on tight...I don't need it ripping off at 75mph full of gear!

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks...

I don't have any experience with the clamp type mount, but I sure would not trust that minimal tip attachment.

That doesn't look like the Audi OEM carrier (made by Thule). The clam shells should touch at the bottom. Your bars seem to be too thick for these particular clam shells.

Yes, your bars are too thick. I use the Thule aero blades for my carrier that is the same as yours, and it works perfectly. The clams don't overlap or touch around the bar, but come around it much more than yours.

It doesn't look right. If you hit the brake in high speed, the cargo box will be flying like a torpedo.

I cannot believe that your service dept installed that and let you drive away!!!

no that is not correct!

Open the box back up, unscrew the clamps from the inside. Unscrew them all the way, then tighten them back up. They should "reach" further down as they clamp back on you should be good to go.

I would NOT load that thing up as it is in the picture>

I would have thought they would have had a t shaped attachment to fit into the channel in the top of the bar and not like that.

Thule makes a kit for that:
