How many miles on TDI?
I'm approaching 100,000 miles on my 2010 Q7 3.0TDI S-Line Prestige and other than oil changes and filters, and the little things like wiper blades, I have had no repairs......yet
I have read all these stories about timing chains(more like the other components related) needing service/replaced around 100,000. How many have actually had any issues? I would sure think a fault would be thrown if something was going bad?
What we pay for these($78,000 sticker on mine), I would hope they would last as long as a gas engine with timing chain where you can easily get a couple hundred thousand miles.
Getting rid of it isn't really an option cause it wouldn't be worth much to be replaced with a new one, unless one has money to throw away.

I think providing you don't have the BUG coded engine, you should be good for 200k miles and more.
The only issue we do not have over here (UK) is the HPFP problems which may well be related to fuel quality in the US.

I can help you out with info here...
I own a 3.0 TDI Q7 purchased new in 2008.
km done= 204,000 = 126,000 miles
Had zero problems really - replaced both exhaust gas collectors (left bak at 2 years, right at 4 years), but that was it.
Car seems rock solid - just keep her serviced (I use long life 30k km intervals) and feed on permium.

Now I avoid discount fuel pumps like the plague.

50,000 miles on my 2010. Only the glow plug issue covered under warranty and a recent NOX sensor CEL which was reset and no further issues. Dealer said I should replace it but wait and see if the CEL comes up again.
I am hoping to keep my TDI as long as I can unless the new tech in the 2015/16/17 cars changes my mind. But probably keep my 2010 if I see what the new model prices will be.
Good to know you have 100K on yours.

Fuel quality can really affect the engine long term. I had a "glow plug" warning light and loss of power with the "lack of fuel to rails" error code. They pulled the fuel filter (cheapest option first!) and it had some nasty waxy gunk in it. So I replaced the filter (was due at that service anyway) and started using premium diesel - since then zero problems.
