Default Interesting Surprise

I took the engine cover off of my 2015 TDI today for the first time, since I wanted to change the oil. Wow, the whole top of the engine has been reconfigured since my 2010 TDI.

Oil filter has been mover to the front of the engine and is about 1/2 the size of the 2010 filter. I thought I would be able to use the filters I had left over from 2010, but no dice. Luckily that's an Audi dealer about 2 miles away, so I was able to get the right filter and finish the job.

I now have two oil filters that will fit a 2010-2012 3.0 TDI engine, if anyone is interested. $5.00 for the pair plus shipping. If you want them, my email is: gwagen2000 [at] comcast [dot] net.

The large diesel fuel filter has also been replaced with a simpler unit and the dip stick has been moved among other things. There are a whole lot of other changes, too. Attached are comparison shots of the two engines.

Yes. I change oil and filter at 1,000 miles, 5,000 miles and every 5,000 miles thereafter. I like it and my cars like it. No further discussion needed.

Email sent. BTW, how does the '15 compare to the '10? I know when I moved from an '07 4.2 to my current '11 tdi, I couldn't believe the level of refinement between the two.

Not much different, which is fine by me. Some of the electronics have been upgraded; but other than that, about the same.
