My 07's mmi amp actually had corrosion on the board. Right by the optical in. Same symptoms.

Drive, and the sound would cut in and out. Eventually the entire screen shuts down. You can press the power and mmi woudl come up but nothing else after that. (shuts down).

So crap. it's stored right above the rear passenger wheel well. It's sealed as far as i can tell but it corroded for sure. I want to coat the entire unit with dilectric grease or even heatsink grease, just to seal it.

Default Bratislava - We Still Have A Problem!

SO, I dropped of my Q7 the evening of Monday, December 13 so the dealerships MMI specialist could start running diagnostics and hopefully pinpoint why the MMI is shutting down and just out right acting crazy.

I've been out of town since dropping my Q off and was really hoping that I would be able to have my vehicle back today - My vehicle that I have yet to make payment #1 on!

I spoke with my Service Advisor earlier today and apparently they are still scratching their heads both at the dealership and in Germany. Thus far, they have replaced 4 of the 9 modules that make up the MMI, including the amp and tuner with no luck. As I was told " the only thing consistent is that the unit continues to shut down"!

They suspect it may be a wiring issue and now the plan is to (A) Take all the modules out of a new 2015 Q7 on the lot and install them into my Q7 -or- (B) Take all the modules out of my Q7 and install them on a 2015 Q7 they have on the lot. The purpose is to determine if the issues stays with the module or my Q7.

At this point I am a VERY DISCOURAGED first time Audi owner. It's hard to be excited about a vehicle that I have "owned" for 4 weeks and has been in the service department 12 of those days.

Really wondering if I should just demand they order a new Q7 or if that would be just too much of a hassle in the end?

Sorry to hear about the ongoing pain. Our new '15 hasn't shown any symptoms yet, but we haven't been on any long trips yet. We'll put a few miles on over the holidays and will have our fingers crossed.

Regarding ordering a new one, that will be governed by the lemon laws in your state. Typically there's a clause for repeat identical failures, and a second for days out of service in a given time period. Of course, your dealership may be willing to do something that goes above the letter of the law, so it never hurts to ask.

Good Luck with yours. Mine started at 103 miles! I understand the Lemon Law and Georgia is pretty straight forward:

http://www.consumer.ga.gov/pdf/Lemon_Law_Rules_9-11.pdf

"Under the lemon law, a reasonable number of attempts is deemed to be: (a.) one attempt, if the nonconformity is a serious safety defect; (b.) three attempts, if the nonconformity, although not a serious safety defect, substantially impairs the use, value, or safety of the vehicle; or, (c.) a cumulative total of 30 days during which the vehicle is out of service for repair of one or more nonconformities.

After a reasonable number of attempts to repair a serious safety defect or any other nonconformity (either a. or b. above), the consumer must notify the manufacturer and provide the manufacturer with a final opportunity to repair the nonconformity.

If the manufacturer fails to correct the nonconformity after the final repair attempt, or if the vehicle is out of service by reason of repair of one or more nonconformities for a cumulative total of 30 days, the consumer may be eligible for a refund for the purchase price of the vehicle or a replacement vehicle."

Definitions:
"(12) "Out of service day” means any day, including weekends and legal holidays, when a new motor vehicle is left at a manufacturer’s authorized agent or designated repair facility for an examination or repair of one or more nonconformities. The number of out of service days for each visit commences the day the vehicle is brought into the repair facility for that repair work and ends the day the work is completed. However, a vehicle shall not be deemed out of service for any day it is dropped off at the repair facility after the close of business. Out of service days shall not include any day on which the vehicle is left at the repair facility exclusively for (a) the performance of routine maintenance; (b) repair of problems that are not found to be nonconformities; or (c) repair of nonconformities after the expiration of the lemon law rights period.

(13) “Repair attempt” means the replacement of a component or some adjustment made to correct a nonconformity."

If I am reading the section that refers to "Out of Service" correctly, they have less than 20 days to get this corrected.

I would certainly much rather they get the issue resolved and I end up being a happy Audi camper. Hopefully they will have it all resolved by end of the week.

Default MMI Problems Resolved (At least appear to be)

After 3 weeks of total in-shop time and 28 tech clock hours, it looks like the persistence of the service team at Audi of North Atlanta paid off and they were finally able to track down the root cause of my MMI failure. The root cause was actually the Gateway Interface Module, which controls more than just MMI functions. The part number is 4F0-907-468-S INTERFACE.

I picked up my Q7 on Saturday, Dec 20 at about noon and the MMI has worked perfectly thus far. The response time is much quicker and the display sharper. Also I now have functions that were missing (and I did not even know it) from both the MMI Car function and the driver information display, such as fuel consumption/hour, front cabin seat heater status, etc).

The service advisor had a stack of paperwork that was bout 2 inches tall for all the diagnosis they performed. Hopefully information gained will help others with same/similar issue.

These guys are to be sincerely commended for all the time and energy the put in to getting me going again.

Here are images of the two page summary I received.

Good news! Since I have new one coming in February, I'll save this for possible future reference. Thanks for sharing the happy ending, and how it was achieved!

I had good service for my 2010 Q7 3.0 TDI from Audi North Atlanta, but could not get the sales weasels to deal on this soon to be delivered 2015; so it's coming from another Atlanta dealer.

Default MMI malfunction issue A7 2015

We have a 2015 A7 which we picked up in late Sept. There were immediately a few MMI issues such as inability to load the jukebox and suddenly being warned that we were out of gas when the tank was full. We took it back to the dealer twice before it was supposedly fixed by replacing the MMI.
However things keep cropping up. For example we are unable to program the homelink. Yesterday we discovered suddenly that the mirror folding function was mysteriously off when it previously was on.
The "you have no fuel" light has come on 3 more times (another mystery - it seems to happen after we go to a certain store - every time! Really weird)
Anyway this is far from solved because we already got a replacement and it did not solve the issue.

After getting to the office, I left the car shut off for about 30 minutes, when I started the car, the MMI came back up to the "initilizing" screen. I chalked it up to a fluke.

BUT - on my way home tonight (11/18), about 5 minutes from home. the MMI shut down again. The shut down means the screen is black and all function buttons were out. (see pics). I will be taking the car back for the dealership to check it out and fix the issue.

Have any of you had the same issues? On a 2 day old Audi?
