New Q7 Owner Questions
Hello,
I recently (literally 1 week ago) purchased a 2014 Q7 (Prestige, TFSI) and am feeling hyper-aware re: maintaining it as best I can. I spent many hours reading about the Q7 (on this forum and other sources) before making my decision, and have now spent just as much time reading after the purchase.
Here's my question:
I noticed that after the first maintenance at 5k miles, an oil change isn't recommended but every 10k miles. That seems a bit much to me. I know cars are much more advanced now and the every 3k is way outdated, but in an effort to try and have the truck last a long as possible, is there any harm in changing the oil every 5k miles? Other than an out-of-pocket expense, is there anything else I should consider before making this decision?
Thanks,
ejm1979

Sorry to update this thread after so much time but I just joined the forum and can't start my own thread yet. I will save the intro stuff for later...
I have the same vehicle 2014 3.0 Q7 TFSI and was hoping to get some feedback from DIY oil changers that have the Q7. I also have 2014 S4, the change on it is a dream compared to the Q7. Main problem is removing the drain plug for the oil. I have heard some people use top change out method but I don't mind getting underneath the car.
Problem with my Q7 is where the thing is located. Parts of the frame are directly below where the oil drain is and it's been messy both times. Any advice how to remedy this problem?
As to your question about how often...I have done the first two changes at 5000 miles. I will probably go every 8 - 10000 moving forward. I have always used synthetic oils and in my previous trucks I would run the same oil up to 15000 miles and change the filter around 7500. Never had any problems. Sometimes I would change the oil sooner if it looked dirtier than usual. With the Audi's I won't go over 10000. I would not be concerned going that high.

I would have to agree if my daily driver sat in traffic during rush hour. Fortunately I get to put mostly highway with little stop and go traffic.
So no suggestions on the messy oil change for the Q7?
I saw another post about large piece of cardboard which would definitely help. I have an oil pan with a very big footprint and it can't catch all of the oil.
Maybe before next time i will try to do some kind of home made funnel that will get it to the pan without hitting parts of the vehicle, but with the funnel in position it will be tough to remove the drain plug without getting oil somewhere.
