I just bought a 2013 SLine with 3.0 what is the best oil weight to run? Have seen 5w/30 and 5w/40. Plan on putting in Mobil 1 when the change comes up.

T, welcome aboard!. The only thing you need to focus on is the published spec: 502.00


Any weight of that oil will preserve your engine warranty. I think Mobil 1 0W40 is probably the easiest to find in the USA.

Here's the Audi Technical Bulletin on approved oils. Make sure the Mobil 1 oil you plan to use meet the Audi/VW oil standard VW 502. On Page 267 of your Owners Manual, both grades that you mentioned 5W-30 and 5W-40 are acceptable. Even 0W-40 is acceptable.

Oil weight is a bit dependent on where you're located. I would never use a 0 weight oil in hotter climates, like the southern or southwestern US.

Guys, any oil covered by the 502.00 spec contains a thickness standard, even a compliant 0W30. All the 502.00 oils are "thick", everyone of them. (The HT/HS is set at >3.5 by the published spec.)
