I would suggest that if you are asking such a basic question it may be wise to see professional advice before starting work!
Normally you would lift it out upwards away from the transmission, so slightly forward then up. To drop it means the whole subframe and transmission all as one unit.

Factory/dealer method is to drop the following as a whole unit, then separate:
engine, transmission, front subframe, front suspension, front axles
They have a special table to facilitate this. Obviously you should have a 4-post lift to go with the scissor-lift table. I think some 2-post lifts would work okay, and no old-school center post lifts will work (plus, I had a bad experience with one involving my 5spd converted V8q several years ago, so I will never use one again).
