I currently have a 2012 Q7 TDI. I also owned a 2011 Q7 TDI from 12/30/2015 until about 07/01/2016 when it was totaled.
Is there anything I need to do right now to make sure I can either sell it back or get compensated for the mod? Do I get anything for owning the 2011 Q7 TDI?

Go to the Audi website and at the top locate the TDI settlement page. Open it and register your previously owned car by VIN as well as your current car.
If the website accepts your name and VIN it will respond telling you your status ie eligible or not eligible. I have not seen the info provided to a former but eligible owner so don't know what you should expect. I would expect you'll have to provide documentation to verify the totaled status. You can call the settlement website for explanation.

You're covered that way. If a later interpretation should develop and you become eligible you're in the system.

TDI Lease Returns
Just saw this in an interesting thread on Audizine where someone traded in a '14 Q5 TDI for a new Q7. The dealer couldn't get AFS to finance the car and they are trying to cancel the deal and return the TDI. Here was one of the replies...
wonder how this will play out with others and how it will ultimately affect the market and value and even availability for Gen 2's. They'll be scarce if this continues, and if this trend is real Audi is clearly trying to avoid making payouts to as many after market buyers as possible. This would make their settlement strategy for lessees make a lot more sense, zero incentive for us to buy the cars since we won't be treated as owners, so once cars are returned, they won't release title to a new owner until the liability is no longer. It'll cost money either way but prevents more people from trying to game the settlement and profit in the aftermarket.
Someone else I know was unable to purchase an A7 TDI from a dealer because Audi would not release the title. The car had been turned in after lease. Audi is protecting their interest here. If they sell even a few TDI's back into the market that they otherwise would not have to, they are on the hook for serious $$ if forced to buy back the cars.
That doesn't mean this is good behavior....but if you are interested to know why they are willing to strain relations, and to go so far as to truck OP's TDI back to him, that is the reason.

"Volkswagen AG said the US Environmental Protection Agency has approved its request to sell up to 67,000 diesel vehicles from the 2015 model year, including about 12,000 currently in dealer inventory with approved emissions modifications.
The vehicles in inventory were held when the company issued a stop sale in September 2015, Volkswagen spokeswoman Jeannine Ginivan told Reuters.
Ginivan said the company was finalizing details of the program.
The EPA approved a fix for specific Volkswagen diesel models in January. They include the 2015 Beetle, Golf, Golf SportWagen, Jetta, Passat, and Audi A3 equipped with the 2.0-liter TDI engine. The approved modifications include a software update, with plans for a particulate filter, additional catalysts, and another software update to come when those parts become available next year.
This approval only covers a small portion of the some 500,000 US vehicles affected by the diesel cheat devices.
An EPA spokeswoman declined to comment on the matter."

I'd really like to sell my 2013 Q7 TDI and buy another vehicle that I've identified, but refuse to walk away from a $9k+ settlement. Am I the only one that feels like I'm being held hostage by this debacle? Does anybody know how soon after the May 11 hearing claims will be paid?
