My used 07' has had a whistling noise coming from the transmission about half the time I drive it. I brought it into the shop (not audi) to get it looked at and a few other things resolved.

At first I hoped it was the AC Blower motor but it wasn't.

They took apart the transmission and thought it was a damaged torque converter. He ordered a replacement only to have them both out on the bench and noticed the used one looked to be in great shape.

I told him to make sure when he re-installed it to check all spacing to see if that helped, he did.

All is back assembled and it has the same whistling noise. When brake cleaner is sprayed internally (don't yet know where he is spraying this) it goes away for an extended period of time. When a lubricant is sprayed it becomes more prevalent.

Has anyone experienced this?

Matthew, 07's are known to be the worse year of the Q7's. Mine had its transmission replaced under CPO, most likely you will need a new one too. Maybe have your mechanic look at the center bearing which is also a common failure point.

Thanks, yes I see the 07's are troublesome but I paid accordingly. The funny thing is the transmission feels very very smooth, better than many other Q7s or Q5s I've driven. I'll live with the whistle until it gives way.

Just curious, I drive a 2013 q7 I have a whistling sound when I drive like you did, it sounds like it comes from driver side door. Is that how yours was as well?Seemed to be coming from the drivers side door? The noise is so annoying!

Mine seemed to come more on the passenger side. Try opening up the oil cap while its whistling and see if it goes away. If so replace the part I mentioned.
