Default 21" Summer Tier Repair

Took my Q in for service today. Adviser shows me where tire picked up a screw right at edge of sidewall on inside of rear tire.

I am being told tire cannot be plugged and cost for replacement is $489. This is the Dunlop SP Maxx Summer tire. If it needs to be replaced, that is fine. But, if it can be plugged then I'd rather do that since the tires will need to be replaced by next summer anyway.

Thoughts?

If the puncture is too close to the sidewall, it is dangerous to just repair it - it's the weakest part of the tire.
Check Tire Rack online - possibly better price & they have local centers that can install.

It is not dangerous to repair, It just needs a better repair than a plug.

Should be fine, did it at least twice on cheap Chinese tires and they never leaked or exploded.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. Spoken with my local tire guy late yesterday and he suggested it be replaced; mentioning my more "spirited" driving style

Good decision on replacing it. You may find a used one with the same remaining tread-life on a local tire shop.

THIS...it can be repaired and as a precaution, you should rotate the tire to the rear if its a front tire that is involved.

Yesterday (Sunday) I Remembered that the Audi Care package purchased when I took delivery also included Road Hazard. Delux coverage, 5 years, unlimited mileage, $5,000 lifetime max. Tire is covered 😊.
