Don't shoot the questioner

Volvo put themselves back on the map with the XC90 to bad it's gonna drag them down below Fiat Chrysler in reliability.

I owned the new xc90 for a few months. Beautiful car and very comfortable seats. Good performance. HOWEVER, trouble from day 1. Most electronic functions intermittenly malfunctioned. Even when they did function my new Q7 outperformed them with better design and reliability. Multiple Volvo dealers were at best incompetent. Volvo USA was unhelpful and rude. I Lemon Lawed the car and bought new Q7 Prestige with air suspension. Dream car. Superior in every way except for seat comfort (I couldn't find Q7 with Luxury package) and Pandora integration. All else Q7 is far superior to XC90.

prob xc90
Probably going with the XC90.
Q7- Premium Plus, Vision, $58k and would only give me 11k for my 2010 Q5
XC90- Momentum Plus, Vision package, Convenience package, $51k + $15k for my Q
Cost difference was too much. While the Q7 was nicer it was not $11k nicer.

You may want to re-think this...one of the major car mags reported lots of issues during their long term test...

In a couple years after they get all the problems ironed out, okay I get it, but right now that $7k you are saving is very likely going to be a big headache. Not figuring your trade value, if the Volvo dealer is really giving 15k (likely more way of discounting the XC 90), Other dealers should come close with some looking around or try Carmax for a buy quote). Speaking of, there is a reason Carmax has five 2016 XC90s available nationwide. All probably turned in as lemons and then auctioned off. It's unheard of for a place like that to have so many pre owned of such a new model like the XC90. I have not taken the time to look but I bet a nationwide search of CPO XC90s at Volvo dealers is well above the norm for a new model like this as well. Not saying must choose the Q7, after all you have to get what you like best, just do all the research on the XC90 issues and perhaps go over in detail w your dealer before accepting delivery.

I am looking to move on from my 2010 Q5 for a bit more room. I got a 2017 q7 Premium Plus (cold weather) as a loaner and loved it. They are selling this and other loaners so I can get for under $60k with about 5k miles.
But I am doing my homework. Going to test drive an XC90, used Mercedes and used Porsche.
My question is on the 2017 Ford Explorer Platinum (don't shoot the questioner). I have read that this is model approaches the Q7 and other luxury brands so thought I would give it a drive to see as there is a considerable cost difference both in upfront and operating.
Anyone else test drive the Explorer?
