Default Switchable 12v supply in engine bay.

After much pain and suffering I ve got my laser detecter physically fitted now all I ve got to do is wire it up.
Has anyone come across a 12v ignition switchable supply under the hood.
I am a little unsure of the wiring diagram or layout so if anyone can help I would be really grateful.

For the sake of not messing with any sensitive electronic system under the hood or voiding out the warranty - I would have the dealership install that for you and I wouldn't imagine it would be anymore than $200.

My dealership sells those "installed" radar/laser detectors for about $1500. I just couldn't justify the cost. Have you (or anybody else) had one of those?

I've had an Escort Solo, battery powered, and not unhappy.

When I installed my Passport 8500ci Plus I used the fuse panel inside the car. Since you need to bring the wiring inside to connect the remote screen/button panel, it's best to do inside. Plus the speaker for the system is on the unit's controller so that would get mounted behind a dash panel. I put the controller near the fuse panel on the side of the dashboard, which is accessible with the driver's door open. It sits just behind the pop off panel. I can't recall which fuse I used but it was the bank of fuses underneath the left foot rest. Pop off the round cap with a very thin screwdriver blade and then remove the bolt with a star bit. Find yourself one that stops working with the car is off. Install a pigtail fuse on the wire. You can get these at any auto parts store.

Hi thanks for the reply.
The unit I have needs to be mounted near the number plate, this is the target area for laser speed guns, its bluetooth thru to your smartphone which has an app. As users id a speed trap its uploaded and the gps coordinates cascaded out to other app users. All of the power requirements are under the hood.
I will have a look at getting the cable through the bulk head but it will be tricky.
I used a breakout fuse for my dash cam but there are a few move free slots if needed.

All sorted, took a brave step and found a black and white feed into the headlight block, used the ground from the aluminium cross member. Up and running now I need to find someone with a LT2020. lol
