Default Flutter between shifts.

I have a 2015 S4 with 4,500 miles. I hear a flutter sound between shifts under hard acceleration when NOT in sport mode. I don't see another thread regarding this so I thought I would throw it to the experts. It's almost like the turbo whine you would hear from that guy in the neighborhood with WRX that always wants to race but it has more bass. This is my first car with a supercharger (Audi virgin) and I never heard this from my twin turbo 335i. Love this car by the way. I don't see going back to BMW.

Are you referring to the "burp"? The Audi and VW Dual Clutch transmission equipped cars have done this since the beginning. It's apparently the result of a momentary throttle and fuel cut during the shift, to ease the shock on the transmission.

Dual clutch fart. Nice. Atleast it doesn't smell.

According to the guy at 034 I asked about this, it's caused by the engine completely shutting off fuel to the engine during gear changes in order to reduce RPM's faster and help with smoother shifting. It does it less in dynamic and sport modes because the DSG just tends to slam in the next gear, comfort be damned.

It seems to happen in both Dynamic and Sport. This video highlights the "fart noise" in sport mode though.

Indeed.

We were so impressed with our 2014 S4 we ordered that we traded our Outback and ordered a 2015 RS5. We wanted something a little different. Love the unique sound of each.

Life is good.
