The B8 S4 can play AAC files (.m4a). See the table on p. 9 of the MMI manual (which also shows that playlists are supported in M3U and PLS formats).

Works fine for me, anyway.

Per the MMI manual, yes, M3U files are supported.

I tought iTunes playlist files were either .itl and/or .xml files (I am not sure which one is the right one)

You say .m3u and .pls files are library files. Where are those files located in iTunes? How can I transfer them to my SD card so that I can use them in my car.

I use Win 7. My iTunes library is located in C - User - My Name - My Music - iTunes - iTunes Media - Music. In Music, iTunes has created a subfolder for each artist. I copied those subfolders to my SD card and they play fine in my car.

What should I do to move my iTunes playlists to my car?

m3u files are simple text files, but you should still create with iTunes.

Try this (I can't commit this'll work):

Go to the playlist in iTunes, right click, then Export. Type in a filename, then in the "Save As Type" select "M3U Files".

Open the file with Notepad.exe and edit the path of each file such that only the file names remain (remove the path).

C:\iTunes\iTunes Media\Music\Coldplay\Viva La Vida (E.P.)\03 Violet Hill.mp3
Should be replaced with:
03 Violet Hill.mp3

Then save the mp3s and the m3u file on your SD card and try to play the playlist from the Audi.

Once I take delivery of my S4 I'll perfect this writeup - there are probably cleaner ways to do this.

oh - what are your favorite songs for driving your S4? (Coldplay will not be my favorite!)

I think I'll start putting together my top 40 driving playlist...

MadMadS4. May I suggest you start a different thread for your subject?

I made AAC copies of all the itunes songs I wanted to trasfer. About 1/2 of them are playable. With the others I get a message that the files are "damaged" and cant play them.

Convert those "damaged" AACs to MP3s and I guarantee you'll be able to play them.
