question on headlights
I has been driving 15 year old BMW with halogen lights. My new s4 lights the road very well. I am getting sharp cutoff of either side of the road. I get no warning lights that anything is wrong. Is sharp cutoff normal? With all the snow banks on the sides of the road the effect is more prominent.

did your last car have Xenon projectors?
this is one of the characteristics of that type of headlight systems, the sharp cutoff allows for fully bright illumination of the road without blinding the oncoming traffic.
Older ones had a projector with a fixed cutoff, they used a standard halogen bulb for high beams. Newer ones have a single bulb and us a cutoff "flap" that folds up to allow the Xenon bulb to act as a single unit low-beam/high-beam.
If you want to more illuminate the sides you can use the fogs, they will help with that.
