Default Two odometers mismatch

It looks like the trip odometer and the main odometer on B8 are driven from slightly different sources. I have never reset my trip odometer and I am somewhere close to 67K miles. During this period, the difference between the trip odometer and the main one grew in excess of 1.6 miles (see the attached image). It was accumulating over the years. This is really a weird design if these two seemingly very similar devices use different sources of information. And if they do, I wonder why is that.

66666 would round to 667.6 after the roll over...no? The bigger question is, why is your temp in C, and odometer in mi not km?

Because in 20 years I lived in the US, I became accustomed to measuring distance in miles and feet, but I still like my temperature in Celsius.

Could this be due to bias when reset each at 1000 miles. The bias would be: 1.6/66 = 0.024 miles/1000 miles.
I guess when you first noticed this was the bias 1.6 miles?

It could be. But your math is slightly off. The trip odometer resets every 2000 miles, so it was reset 33 times and not 66 like you suggested. It results in slightly over 250 ft of accumulated error over 2000 miles traveled. Still weird, don't you think so?

I have never reset the trip odometer manually.
