Default abs loss of communication to ecu

After my abs and esp warning lights appeared on the dash I had a vagcom scan done and it showed no communication to ecu on the abs system, also the abs module does not respond when direct access is attempted by the vagcom; does this imply a rebuild of the abs module or on my model 2001 s4 with esp should I be looking at a replacement of the esp module under the rear seat? Any informed or experienced replies would be welcomed.

Typically means abs module is dead. Most cost effective approach is getting it fixed vs buying new replacement. Module masters does rebuilding as well as a few others. If you search there are instructions on how to remove just the electronic portion of the module which will be sent for repairs.
