Default Any sedan owners have want to get rid of their spare tire hold down?

I'm putting a full size spare in my avant and I need the bolt tie down thing that holds it in place from a sedan...

Default Hey Doc, this might help.... part # 4A0 803 899

Here's what I did, I found a tire hold down at a local indy repair shop for free. The tie down had a plastic cap on the top and a plastic ring around the bottom. I don't have a picture before I modded the piece but you get the idea. The cap on the top just popped off and I was able to remove the bottom with the help of a little pressure & a screwdriver.

I'm using a full size AVUS wheel and had to remove the top piece and the bottom to make it fit. If you don't remove the bottom, the bolt won't reach the hole in the base of the wheel well & if you leave the cap on, the hold down will be above the height of the wheel & the avant cargo cover won't go all the way down.

The length of the bolt is approx 3 1/4" long. Good luck with One Lap!

Oh, one more thing... i got a set of 5 lugs to use with the spare since my BBS bolts won't work & I bought a T20 torx bit to keep in the trunk to remove the hatch trim piece if I need to get the tire out. I really didn't want to cut the trim piece.

Default Thanks Mark! Finally got the tire mounted on the spare Avus.

Looking at your car makes me want to have an RS4 bumper so badly! Where's Bambi when you need her?

Default Yeah, maybe I'll wait till then. I keep hoping a deer will commit

suicide on my bumper. That way at least insurance will cover some of the tab.
