Default Blinker forget it's on.

Both my left and right blinker will stay on for a like 20-30 seconds, then they will do a what seems to be a double long single blink and then they just stop all together unless I cycle the blinker again?

What would cause this?

indicates a blown bulb somewhere. Have you checked that all the bulbs work on the correct side?

The only bulbs that are out are both the right front and rear fog lights.

It also could be your hazard module on the way out. The turn signals are tied in to the hazard switch, and when it starts going they do strange things. It usually gets worse fairly quickly (days) before you basically have no turn signals.

If it is your hazard switch, I think it's $50-$70 for the part at the dealer, and a 20 minute fix. Be very careful taking off the trim as it's pretty brittle with the age of these cars.

Default Definately your hazard warning module...

I had the exact same problem about 2 years ago. Initially the blinking was intermittent/skipping a beat then it got progressively worse within two weeks.
(quick! remember your hand signals!)

The hazard switch module apparently has two separate blinker circuits (one for turn signals, and one for hazard)... which explains when you press the hazard button the hazards will work fine and why both turn signals have the same problem.

At the time, I got a replacement module from amazon ... search "audi hazard switch".

The wood trim pulls straight out; if I remember it is held on by 6 or 8 metal
clips on the trim piece and as previous poster said, they can be a bit delicate.
I had to superglue one clip back on...

The hazard module pulls out but avoid pulling it by the big red button.
