APR in Alabama, Cathleen in Detroit (more)
Time for me to lay down the cards with the 5KTQ. While I have the center driveshaft out for repairs I hope to put it on a chassis dyno. $40 and a buddy has offered to help tune it on the dyno. Should I run crappy tires? I hear dynos are hard on tires.

Not for the feint of heart
FWD can get a bit squirmish on the dyno it seems. At least from the Passat that I saw getting dyno'ed. Autothority really had to chain it down well. Wide tires, negative camber, and toe in all make it worse. It doesn't look any harder on the tires than when you go over a road, but it is a bit hard on the engine. Need to make sure they can generate enough air to blow into the engine bay.
The turbo was bright orange. Not dull orange like in Don Pavlik's picture. I mean bright! Of course, this was about 10 seconds after a dash to 127 mph...

Re: But it is 250 hp vs 265 hp, too much difference for SAE vs DIN
YES, 15 HP is too much. My mistake for transposing the U.S. torque and HP figures. It does sound like the Euro model has a different cam or boost cut-off with a 15 HP and 37 lb-ft difference.
FWIW, the cars imported to the U.S. must be +/- 5% of Audi's claimed power figures so I'd say it's impossible for the U.S. to be receiving the Euro engine. EPA fines something like $50K per car if caught beyond the 5% tolerance.
