Could use a little help with OEM iPod adapter wiring.
I put an OEM adapter in my `02 S4 with Symphony I Wired per the instructions it doesn't power up. From the archives, I found a TT owner had run the brown wire to ground (instead of into the connector). This makes the adapter work fine but slowly drains the car battery.
Anyone know which wire supplies power to the adapter? Some of the labels are easy to decipher but not the positive feed. I ran a lead from a switched source but don't know which wire to hook it up to. I didn't try tracking it down with the multimeter yet.
I will probably upgrade to a RNS unit (a different wiring harness is supplied with the OEM iPod adapter) but would like it to work in the meantime. Think I will go with DICE next time.<ul><li><a href="http://kuniseins.ku.funpic.de/CdcEmu/Graphics/Audi_Symphony1.jpg">Pic of a Symphony I</a></li></ul>

Re: Could use a little help with OEM iPod adapter wiring.
are you using the AUDIF + the VW harness adapter? I called the guys at PAC about this a while ago, and they said the AUDI cable will not work, only the AUDIF.
However, I have the supposedly correct AUDIF+VW combo and it still doesnt work at all.

EDITED - Craig came through with OEM iPod wiring. -EDITED
'01 S4 iPod Adapter
new harness wire location
Red 10 pin connector
*Brown 10
Black 20 pin connector
*Purple 14
Red/Blue 16
Yellow 19
Green 18
White 15
*Blue 13
Purple/Red 17
Grey 20
* = wire locations that differ from the install instructions
Swapping blue and purple did not work for my '02 S4.
Can't easily hook test leads to the iPod connection to test voltages/amperage, I am waiting to see if the battery goes dead again. Will update later.
An alternative to waiting for the battery to die would be to test milli-amperage draw on the battery before and after hooking up adapter. I didn't think of this beforehand.
Helpful tools for pulling the pins (if you don't have the specialty pin release tool) include:
Small needlenose pliers
needles - yes, like the girlie sewing ones - for inserting / releasing barbed pins.
micro screw drivers for prying the connector apart and also for inserting / releasing barbed pins.

Re: Craig came through with OEM iPod wiring.
So your's works now?
Did you have a CD changer in before you got this adapter? I can't get my synmphony to switch over to CDC mode to active the IPOD OEM box... perhaps I need to change something with the VAGCOM?
Any ideas?!
thanks

I talked myself into it being a problem with VAG COM too. But the adapter wasn't powering on.
I haven't rewired my iPod adapter yet. Maybe this weekend.
I did have a CD changer but I never tried it because it didn't have the cartridge. There is a code to tell the radio the CD changer is present.
Look in the archives (or Google) and you can find the radio codes.

So I've reprogrammed the radio, and no dice....
So i found the code and reprogrammed the radio:
bottom of this page: http://www.ibiblio.org/tkan/audi/radios/symphony.html
however, I STILL cant get the IPAC to work. The vagcom says reads a fault on the radio, saying it cant communicate with the cd changer! Sounds like my IPAC isn't sending whatever signal the radio expects. However, hte IPAC is charging my IPOD, so I think it has power?
The harness I have has some wires labelled GROUND - 12V that I've tried hooking to battery ground, and to no avail.
any help with this would be VERY much appreciated!
