Default I believe the journals are identical in the 2.7L, 2.8L and 3.0L

The journals in the RS4 are slightly larger. The fact that they beefed up the crank for just that one specific application tells you something..

Well now someone really needs to see if the 3.0 crank will drop in. That would be ideal IMHO.

I believe it will drop in. I don't believe it will turn. There isn't enough clearance.

I've been told that it is too much with the connecting rods on.

Default Where did you get your figure for the stroke of the 3.0L ???

It's wrong. It should be 92.8 mm/3.65 in.

154 / 92.8 = 1.66 ratio.

That makes more sense.

Bore is supposed to be 82.5 mm.

Default I just dont think 8000rpm is really pushing things that hard provided quality components are used

high end conrods, stiff valvesprings, high end fasteners and balanced rotating assembly should keep things together just fine.

plenty of japanese make turbo cars pushing 9k and higher. i believe tony@epl turns 8100 on his 1.8T with valvesprings only as well.

Default What is the mean piston speed at 8000 RPM?

(92.8 / 1000) * 2 * (8000 / 60) = 24.8 m/s
(or 4870 ft/min)

That's really pushing it!

No doubt you can do it but how often will you need to rebuild? It is also hell on the piston rings.
