How bad is overfilling oil? My low oil light came on today and now I overfilled at lunch...
It's been 3months and 4k miles since my last change. I did notice some oil on my lower pan, so I tried to clean it up real well to see how it looked at the next change. Well, today my low oil light came on for the first time ever. I checked oil when I got to work and sure enough it didn't even register on the measurement part of the dip stick.
From prior experience, I believe it needed more than a quart to get back into that range (just based on what it takes to top off during normal changes, and that many people have commented about being a quart low and no mention of light coming on). Nonetheless, I tossed in 2 quarts of oil after lunch, and now my level is above the top of the measurement area.
How bad is that really? I doubt I'm much more than a 1/2 quart over...
And of course, I am driving the S4 because the Golf has an issue - why do they both give me problems at the same time - huh!?!
If I hadn't overfilled it, I'd probably wait a month to change my oil, but now I think I'll be looking at it this weekend.

Atleast you have a working low oil light sensor........
I overfilled myself the other day by just doing a physical DS inspection...

Easy to Fix
Happened to me courtesy of stupid dealer service. Brought them 7 qts Mobil 1 and they put them all in. Get a big syringe (50 - 60 cc/~ 2 oz or anything that can pull a little suction and about 2 - 2 1/2 ft of small tubing. Oil resiatant or tygon tubing is best (lab or home depot). Connect to syringe with clamp or wire twist so it doesn't slip off. Put tube down dipstick and remove enough oil until it reads full. If you use clean tube etc, oil you remove can be reused. takes about 5 min
