Default You will be fine. You'll just get bumper rash from parallel parkers and tickets for no front plate..

and the drivers are not very good. The taxi drivers suck ***. Never seen so many clueless and slow taxi drivers before. I'm not talking about aggressive ******* taxi drivers - those I don't mind. These are slow, unpredictable, and just dumb (like they don't know the best route to take). NYC has the best taxi drivers, FWIW.

Oh, and lots of foreigners here. No offense meant toward anyone but lots of "off the boat" types that completely suck *** at driving. Totally clueless. Makes for "fun" commuting.

Default okay, as a native, I gotta respond to this one....

Dude! Population density?...which means you don't like most cities? And boring weather? I love the fact we don't have huricanes, tornadoes, snow, ice storms, etc. I find it nice having ZERO rain 10 months out of the year, near perpetual sunny weather, where the worst weather related complaint we have is "fog". Where we see only a handful of days a year with either 100F or 40F temps.

And the city has more restaurants per capita than any other city in the country, where we have thousands of miles of canyon carving twisties at our doorstep, where you're within a couple of hours of 3 world class race tracks, etc.etc.

Okay, next time your in town, email me. If I'm going to a track day (think Laguna Seca, Infineon on T-Hill), I'm draggin your *** with me. You'll have a blast for sure. I'll get you to change your mind.

Default Ha ha! It is a matter of taste! (I just got back Saturday)

It is a matter of taste... I cannot do 65F in August,
this is just unheard-of where I come form (Greece)
and weird for 90% of the country. I do enjoy the
perpetual green and the nice roads, and landscape
that goes with most long drives, and that is somewhat
characteristic of northern California.

Restaurants in San Francisco are excellent. Anything
at North Beach will do it for me... and the little
unknown places found scattered in Pacific Heights
and the Cow Hollow area.. Castro is certainly a must.

The population density is pretty high. You cannot
just park on the street in residential neighbourhods,
that is a given. The wonderful achitecture of SF
both I and the wife like, but they are too expensive.
Those are the real turn-offs.

I just got back from a couple of days in Monterey
for a conference and a day at Palo Alto. I drove
by the Laguna Seca signs wanting to just turn
and have a peek at it! Next time I am in town for
anything, I will e-mail you and you can show us
how its done!

I like SF, do not get me wrong, but ice-driving
in the Winter in MN is fun too!

Default You got it....

Wow, sounds like you know the town pretty well. And you are certainly correct about home prices. Even with the housing slump, 1 bedrooms for 400K is simply irrational IMO. My wife and I had to buy across the bay in Alameda. You get more bang for your buck so to speak.

Email me when your in town and if you have a free day. Even if my car isn't up to snuff in the track day dept., I have tons of car buddies that sign-up and we can get rides from instructors. And Laguna is simply a blast...but you just don't see alot of B5's on the track anymore though. I'm usually one of a handful at the most. Don't know why...then again, my car is getting a bit long in the tooth (as are other B5S4's now) and I'm getting more and more concerned about breaking something. But last Feb. I got a ride in a Stage III with Stasis LSD and center diff's...lord was it fast. Also got a ride in an Exige S; a completely overwhelming car. If I had the dinero, that would be my next car without a doubt.

later...
