I read in one magazine article that the S4 corners at 0.83G. I read in another magazine article that the Lincoln LS corners at 0.83G. That is a respactable number, great for the Lincoln which supposedly outhandles a 540i, but not so great a number for the S4. Is that just the upper limit of comfort on the street?

Numbers from different magazines really aren't comparable...(more)
In fact, since magazines like Car & Driver test in a variety of locations, the only really accurate numbers for direct comparison may be in their comparison tests (same conditions, etc.)
Different magazines use different skidpads to achieve the numbers, so comparing results from two different magazines isn't much help, either!
Just my $.02

Blame it on the tires...
For some reason, Audi chose to put all-weather tires on the S4, rather than more appropriate high performance tires (like Michelin Pilots for instance). Their decision is inexplicable on a car of this nature.
A tire swap would fix things right up and should take the lateral accel. figure up a bit, perhaps to .90g, or so on the stock suspension.

more useful answer ...
1 g is the force that gravity exerts on you.
In other words the earth is exerting 1 g on you so that you don't float off the ground and away.
So 0.83g means that if you were in the car, you would feel 83% of earth's gravity pulling you sidways in the car seat.

Anyone have any semi-hard data that "upgraded" suspensions actually increase grip on S4? Not turn in
