Went to the local Audi dealer (Hoffman of Hartford, CT) tonight to pick up a 2000 A4 brochure. The salesman I know there mentioned he drove the S4 this past weekend at a track in PA. In brief: tons of power and grip on demand and "the kind of car you want to go 100 in all the time." I'm sure this information comes as no surprise to anyone, but it was cool to see how genuinely excited he was about the car.

Also of interest -- Hoffman has 9 S4s presently in port, and 8 of them are already sold. I just can't wait to get behind the wheel myself.
