My S4 should come in at $39,100 (before lux tax, destination, etc.). A similarly equipped A6 2.7T would be $43,500. I'm 6'5" and virtually no one can fit behind me in my A4. What would you do knowing the price difference is only 11% more for an A6 2.7T. Also, how much do you think would need to be but into the brakes/suspension on the A6 2.7T to get S4 handling?

A6 2.7T has heated rear seats - isn't that worth the extra$$?

Default I'm getting the A6, but don't expect S4 handling...

I'm only 6'2" but sit rather reclined due to my stiff back. I like the interior of the A6 and seating better, with 1-2" more shoulder room and 1" more headroom, but the A4 feels fully adequate to me. Rear seat room is much greater, though (but I don't expect to use it that much).

The A6 2.7T is a bit heavier than the S4 (anyone know where to find these numbers?), but will have wider and longer stance. The suspension will be tuned specifically for this engine, so will probably be a bit firmer, but I doubt it will approach S4 handling. I don't plan to drive it like a sports car or expect it to perform like one, but I like those acceleration figures!

I'd say, pick which aspect of the car is more important to you, and go with your gut.

Also notice that an S4 is only $4,340 more than a similarly equipped A4 2.8 - What a bargain!

And the PES 2.8 supercharger costs $5K. Hmmm...

Stoney,

Here are the weight of 2000 cars according to the "inside Audi".

A6 4.2 4024
A6 2.7 3759/3836 (M/Tip)
S4 3594/3702 (M/Tip)

Why would a Tip add 108 lbs. in an S4 but only 77 lbs. in an A6 2.7T?

Default Would not have expected the all-aluminum 4.2 to weigh 188 lbs. more than the 2.7T

That puts it heavier than the A8. Ouch.

Default I catch hell from my 11 year old daughter

because the rear seats in the A4 are not heated but the A8 seats are. I think I have her understanding that the choice was either a A8 for me and no college education for her or the present situation.

I don't think I will mention the A6 rear seat heater. She's gaining weight and soon will be 12 so she can ride in the front soon.
