Transmission Services through Jiffy Lube/others?

Why do you feel you need to do this? Are you having an issue with it?
The service is beyond the scope of a non-audi specialist or atleast a quality indy with access to vag tools.
Honestly the service is very easy to DIY (with a second persons assistance), especially if you take the time to premake a couple of tools to assist.

The shop independent I work for charges $250 for a trans service. Includes labor, filter and 6 quarts of ATF1 (pentosin version of OE fluid). Not a difficult job, just can be messy. You just need to fill it and with it level warm it up to ~40*C? with the drain plug open, then it's done.

Yeah I am having an issue. In VAGCOM I get this:
1 Fault Found:
17125 - Torque Converter Clutch: Stuck OFF / No Power being transferred
P0741 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
I have a mechanic who is a phenom but a bit costly, he discovered that the fluid is a bit dirty and that the ATF and filter should probably be changed. He quoted me $400. I figured I would just do a DIY because I enjoy working on my cars and like to save money anytime I can. I read a great tutorial on changing the fluid but it seemed pretty precise on things, such as having the car perfectly level and taking many steps to fill, wait, fill, and repeat. It came off as a bit overwhelming..
I think I might just order the kit and see if I can do it or if I can get my mechanic to get it done at a decent price.

Changing out the fluid typically has little effect on that issue.
The code generally means the a seal in the torque converter has failed causing the torque conterver lockup clutch to not engauge. I haven't heard of fluid causing this before. Generally the fix is to replace the torque converter with a modified version from one of the rebuilding shops. I had mine rebuilt by 517 trans.

I've definitely become aware of the possibility that my TC may be starting its decline. However, I think that because Ross-Tech's wiki suggests other possible culprits and because my mechanic said the fluid should be changed because it is a bit dirty, I think its the most logical and hopeful option to at least try changing the fluid and filter.
I've read about other people with tranny problems and I don't really experience any of them. I only have a DTC and in a few rare cases a tiny bit of clunkiness when in Tip mode. I tried logging the slip speeds and clutch activity through VAGCOM and it looked fairly normal compared to other healthy Tips AND it does in fact lock up on high way speeds.
I might just be in denial but I think anyone facing the possibility of a $1k+ repair would be =)

How often does the code come back? It's good that you have checked into the slipping/no lockup. I remember reading one case where the solenoid valve was having trouble causing the issue aswell.
I assume the mechanic noticed the color while checking the fluid level?

I would not take it there. I don't trust places like that, and I wouldn't recomend you to either. Look around for a reputable shop that can do a tranny flush for you or just take it to the dealer. You should not skimp when it comes to your transmission.
