Unequivocal Yes...
I can understand those that do not appreciate the appearance of a wagon...it's a matter of opinion. But looks aside, the avant carries more, has greater head room, faster top end (lowered acceleration) and firmer rear spring rates. Drive a buddy's some time...cornering is fun.
My concern lies with AoA not yet announcing ANY S Avant availability. With Len Hunt's comments they may even go crazy and keep the S4 Avant unavail and bring in a few RS4s. However, I for many, cannot even consider a $60k+ vehicle in good conscious.
At this point VW/AoA have done nothing to meet the needs of those wanting a performance wagon. BMW have...

I woul ONLY have ordered the S4 Avant, not he sedan,
I e-mailed AofA fall of '97 begging for the Avant modl of the S4, but to no avail..
I'm from Europe (Sweden (yes, lots of Volvos..)), and value Form, Function, an Speed so much that I would only get he Avant modl (for added practicality).
I'm contemplating moving back to Sweden just so I can get the RS4 Avant (and sleep in the car due to its price..)
Avant or bust!
