AWE Intake Installed
I ordered the AWE intake for my car a few weeks back. Here is an installation review.
First, fit and finish is really really good. There are some rough spots on the inside of the boxes and tubes but the outside is finished really well. Make sure you blow out the pieces with compressed air before putting them on the car. Also, remove the quality control sticker.
The installation was very straight forward - however 2 things to keep in mind
1. The clamps that are on the OEM turbo inlets get reused. Take care to keep them in good shape
2. There is no "TOP" or "Bottom" labeled on the new hoses. Be prepared to flip the ones for the turbos - but the intake runner tube is pretty obvious. Would love to see a sticker put on the tubes to help with assembly.
Now on to what is sure to be the controversy.
The kit's filter is an oiled air filter. This is very not-obvious on their website. It is exactly the same size as the OEM air filter. So, i used the OEM air filter in the new box. Did i leave some HP on the table, probably. Did I want to run the risk of oil in the MAF or turbos - no way. Would love to have seen the kit come with a dry filter.
Second bit of controversy. This carbon kit is HEAVIER than OEM. not by much but it is. I put the new kit on a baby scale with all the parts. 5lbs 14oz. Once I had the OEM removed, i weighed it. 5lbs 9oz. Now - that's not a lot at all. And before you freak about it being a 4300lb car and I am talking ounces - hear me out. The intake is $1000. the intake is carbon fibre. Lightness costs this kind of money. You don't get lightness. Also, I know that if it gives you a bump in HP it negates the weight. But really? A grand for a carbon intake that is heavier than OEM?
Love the kit. A little more turbo noise and it looks fantastic.

Thank you for your thorough review!
You are leaving power on the table by not using our filter, which is designed to allow more air flow. The S6 does not utilize a MAF sensor. There is no risk of running our oiled filters. The only time people run into issues with oiled filters is after the cleaning process and too much oil is applied during recharging.
While we do use carbon fiber which is advantageous in the weight category (much more significantly so when replacing metal components though), we make sure to use extra UV stable clear coat to ensure a long lasting and beautiful finish. There is also plenty of reinforcement to prevent cracking and damage over time and through intense driving conditions. We could have made them minutely lighter by opting for dry carbon, but the glossy finish adds to the premium look and premium quality.

Learning new stuff every day. The carbon explanation makes sense. It's is 100% staying on and I am happy with the purchase.
And yes, it's under 1/2lb. I'll eat a smaller lunch to make up for it!

Damn this post... I just couldn't resist and ordered one a few days ago!!
However, AWE sent me an email and said they are now out of stock. Ugh...
Mike@AWE, any idea on when these will be back in stock for the S6? I'm get so impatient when I completely impulse buy things.
